July has been a month of building, reviewing, and doing 'proper' paperwork across the business. The kind of month that isn't loud, isn't sexy, but it's necessary and actually makes a big difference to how we do business at Dimension H&S Ltd.

The month has gone bloody quickly and we are now juggling the summer holidays with kids (it's a reality, let's not pretend we don't for the sake of looking professional because that is utter nonsense and Melissa has been there before where her employer questioned why she needs to be around for her kids...I know, right?!)

Internal Policy Suite

The company policy suite for Dimension H&S Ltd reached its final form this month plenty concise, succinct documents covering everything from ISO management system policies through to HR, employment, GDPR, and business continuity. An annual review cycle is now set for July 2027. We are sure Olivia will keep us on our toes with this one!

Remember, when writing policies and procedures it is good practice to review them at least annually, but have pre-determined trigger points for review, that can include:

  • Changes in legislation

  • Incidents or events that prompt a review (e.g. cyber risk noted)

  • Change in business activity

Compliance Obligations Reviews

Another one that isn't sexy but is utterly necessary. Any organisation wanting to manage their risk needs to know what their compliance obligations are. We aren't just talking the law here, we are talking client obligations, industry obligations, professional membership obligations the lot!

We've actually been working with two of our longstanding clients doing a routine review and update of their compliance and obligations registers (a necessity if you are looking at ISO 14001 and 45001).

We've been taking a deep dive into Aspect and Impact registers. The changes in ISO 14001:2026 are a real opportunity to deep dive and demonstrate the successes and challenges, of environmental risk management. Remember to put those positive things down, take this example of one of our clients, heavy industry, running along a stream, but we are constantly on wildlife watch and to see kingfishers is a real treat and testament to their efforts.

Integrated Management Systems

We love a management system, it's what we do! So to write an integrated management system manual (not an explicit requirement of the ISO standards) is a real treat and a challenge when it is spread across four standards (ISO 9001, 14001, 45001 and 22301). This has now been approved by the Managing Director who committed to a full read and review, ready to roll out across the organisation to provide some guidance and structure for those involved with the operational and strategic aspects of their management system.

Invites to Proposal

Let's be realistic here now, anyone running a business knows there are peaks and troughs when it comes to work coming into the business but we have had a few enquiries this month and honestly, some of which we have said 'no' to straight away because they don't align with what we do and what we offer.

We are working with a training provider on mapping standards against professional bodies with their training content and will be auditing them as good practice...this one we are excited about.

The stand out ones are a local council asking us to develop and deliver a CPD plan for their team around construction and awareness we are really looking forward to this one being finalised. Another stand out one is a very well known manufacturer looking for support with an environmental compliance gap analysis. This one is super interesting as is brings Melissa back to her childhood!

Socials & Podcast

Olivia has been working her backside off with the podcast and the socials and it is paying dividends. Not only for Dimension but for our guests. One guest has said that they have been invited to contribute to a university leadership and management degree course, which is bloody amazing and we couldn't be happier for them and are ridiculously happy that the podcast is bringing positivity.

We have a very special episode coming up with Rosie Russell and Marcus Long talking about Suicide Prevention in the Workplace with BS 304840. A free standard you can download here.

Level 7 Diploma in Executive Coaching and Mentoring

Melissa doesn't mind us sharing this one. There have been a couple of referrals on the coursework with some minor snags and updates required. This is the reality of running a business, a podcast, doing a L7 diploma, managing a family and generally being a human being!

It's not a failure, it's a lesson in itself and one that she is embracing fully but is absolutely looking forward to completing the course to move onto the next stage of her coaching and mentoring journey.

Speaking of coaching and mentoring. Melissa's latest client is a woman who survived ovarian cancer, her life was turned upside down with the news, her treatment and still ongoing testing to make sure the cancer doesn't return. The coaching element is that this individual is building confidence to speak publicly about her journey and to be able to confidently communicate and support others on their journey. To selflessly give back to a community that she is so passionate about and felt so secure within as part of her journey.

We love that bit of positivity!

Volunteering

As you know Melissa does a flippin' lot of volunteering, and honestly, she does get tired, but she believes in what she does and is surrounded by fantastic people.

IIRSM Council is taking her on a journey of governance and competencies which is fantastic, very interesting and, as we mentioned earlier, a vital part of any organisation! The President's Reception is coming up on 9th September 2026 so if you are around please say hello to Melissa as she will be in London for the event.

The Safety Social has been a little quiet recently, the volunteers there are very busy with work, but the group is ticking over nicely and with the committee meeting there is some structure around what is happening and when in the near future in relation to events. Remembering that the socials are now in the North West of England and in London. Find more information here.

CPD and Development

As always, we like to keep up with the world and what is going on, we like to develop our team. So CPD planning and making sure we make time for training and development is important to us. We integrate it and plan it as part of everyday events. It is not a burden and should never be viewed as such by organisations.

Thank you for reading if you go this far, lots of love!
